What does copyright protect?

Copyright protects original works of art and authorship. The key here is original. You get no rights from downloading stuff off the internet. Just because it’s technologically possible to download movies or songs or something doesn’t give you any right to them. The copyright gives the owner of the original copyright the right to stop people from copying it. It covers pictures and paintings and songs and software. Anything that’s original is protected by copyright.
