Nevin & His Speaking

The truth is, I enjoy speaking to groups of people! It’s exciting and fun for me! It makes me smile and I am certain that at least one person enjoys every program I give, Me! I once heard someone give this advice on the key to telling a successful joke: You better laugh too! I know that is true with my speaking. When I am having a good time, so is everyone else!

I am married to a very patient and beautiful woman and have two tremendous kids, still in school! (So you can see that I am going to be Speaking for quite some time!) I am an Eagle Scout and one of the few people who actually bought a ticket to Woodstock. I graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy with a BS in engineering, was an engineering officer and served in Vietnam. I have an MBA and a Juris Doctor degree. I have worked as a patent attorney since 1980. I have been told I should do stand-up comedy. That sounds too scary! But I do enjoy adding the lubricant of humor to the normally dry subjects of intellectual property law and related topics.

I have “been there and done that” having helped many hundreds of small, medium and large businesses identify what property they have and obtain appropriate protections. I have a message to give and I am motivated to give it in order to help individuals help their business. I have a passion to see that everyone understands the boost patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets can give their business. While their business may be about rocket science, the rules for protecting their business are not. Intellectual property laws can and should be understood by the business person. Once they are, the business person can make the cost-benefit analysis themselves to decide whether to use the laws to protect their intellectual property assets. The choice is theirs to make, not their lawyer!

I started this page with one truth; I will end it with another. What I talk about is important because conflict is inevitable for every successful business. Taking action to protect your business in advance of the coming conflict enables you to end those conflicts quickly, inexpensively and in your favor!
